See Graphic Period Pictures Censored By Instagram + Poster's MUST-READ Open Letter

Posted in: , ,

Rupi Kaur, a Sikh poet studying at the University of Waterloo, Canada, posted an image of her during her period as part of her photo-series project for a visual rhetoric course on Instagram. The photo shows Rupi in bed with a patch of menstrual blood which had stained the same sweatpants she's wearing above, and had also leaked on the bedsheet.

The photo was subsequently taken down by Instagram citing violation of the 'Community Guidelines'. Though not outrightly against any overt photo guidelines on Instagram, I imagine several people who saw the photo were offended and reported to the site to take it down, and they did. However, Rupi decided to re-post the photo and wrote a powerful open letter to accompany. See the photo and read her post below...

Vajazzling - The New Trend of Adorning Your Vagina and Making Yourself Feel Good

Posted in: , , ,

Vajazzling is a form of vaginal adornment, and is combo word from bedazzle and vajayjay. I'm just finding out about it, but apparently, the trend exploded when actress Jennifer Love Hewitt announced that she vajazzles regularly to feel good about her privates, and she included a chapter on vajazzling in her book. Soon, blogs were posting about it, and every lady was getting in on the bandwagon.

What If Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Connor Made Up and Released a Music Video Together?

Posted in: , , ,

I loved Miley Cyrus in the Wrecking Ball music video, forget that she was naked, but the music and lyrics were actually quite good. It was only until the open letter from Sinead O’Connor that I knew that Sinead's Nothing Compares to You video had been an inspiration for Miley in making the Wrecking Ball video.

Magazine Covers - Architect, Olajumoke Adenowo on TW

Posted in: ,

Since this is TW's men's edition, one would be forgiven for expecting to see a man on the cover of the magazine, but Olajumoke Adenowo makes a lovely picture. I've been wanting to see some non-entertainment women on magazine covers and TW seems to have read my mind. Olajumoke is an architect. Well done TW!

Dear Aunty Flo - Tales from that time of the Month

Posted in: ,

I was catching up on Kiky's blog recently when it all came coming back to me, the embarrassment  the distress, the back-to-front skirts, strategically placed long notes, and sweaters draped around the waist. It was a post on leak proof Dear Kate panties, which are supposed to protect women during that time of the month from over flows and spills caused by Aunty Flo.

Who even labeled it Aunty Flo? BTW, if you're a guy and still wondering what this is about, you may want to stop reading now. If you're a 'lady', you may also want to read something else, like my wedding page :)

When I was growing up, I first knew it by the biological name, menstruation. It started around the first or second year of secondary school. Mine showed face in my third term JS3 and then stayed away for the longest. In JS2, it came back with a bang. I was in class, when I stood up to go get something, someone called my attention to the patch on my skirt. I'd kind of felt the wetness, but it was a hot day, and I thought it was sweat. That was just the beginning of my woes.
